Combichrist - 'Making Monsters'
Wenn einer hinreichend darin Erfahrung hat, musikalische Monster auf die Menschheit loszulassen, dann ist es Andy LaPlegua, seines Zeichens Front-Berserker und Kopf der norwegisch-amerikanischen Electro-Industrial-Naturgewalt Combichrist. Die knapp anderthalb Jahre seit dem letzten Erfolgs-Longplayer haben die Electro-Aggressoren fast ausschließlich auf Tour verbracht, u.a. im Vorprogramm der letzten Rammstein-Europatournee, um die mannigfaltigen Eindrücke und Erfahrungen nun in das mit Abstand vielseitigste Album ihrer Karriere einfließen zu lassen. Das neue Combichrist-Monster ist laut, brachial und direkt, wie man es von einem Album der Band auch nicht anders erwarten würde, und Tanzflächenbrandsätze wie die vorab-Single „Never Surrender“ zählen zu den härtesten Hits, welche LaPlegua und Co. bisher produziert haben. If there is one person with ample experience in unleashing sonic monsters unto mankind, it must be Andy LaPlegua, front-berserker and head of Norwegian-U.S.-Electro-Industrial force of nature Combichrist. The band has been spending most of the roughly one and a half years since the release of their highly successful last long play album on tour, also supporting legendary German band Rammstein on their European tour along the way. All the manifold impressions and experiences have certainly left their mark on the new album, which is easily the most versatile release in their career. The new Combichrist-monster is loud, massive and direct, as one would have come to expect from the band and features incendiary floor fillers such as the advance single “Never Surrender” that are among the hardest hits Andy & his lads have ever produced. At the same time Minimal-Electro-influences, menacing, dark slo-mo-steam rollers and an inkling of melodic elements have been seeping into the sound, evolving “Making Monsters” into an inferno of the intense kind. Combichrist, the post-apocalyptic Electro-act that is currently touring Europe with Rammstein is releasing a brand-new menacing club smasher in form of „Scarred“, the third single from the highly successful album release „Today We Are All Demons.“ Limp Bizkit’s Wes Borland has spiced up the massive, new single version of the track with some smashing guitar work. The hellish new CD-maxi features this searing reinvention alongside three other new mixes and the album version of the title track. On “mental [per]mutation”, our favourite patients dive deeper into the everyday life of the institution, unearthing a sonic roller coaster ride of thudding mutated dance-floor-Industrial hybrids (“Käferfrühstück”, “Mister 29” and many more) , acoustic experiments, as well as instrumentals with a soundtrack-like feel (the “Retrograd”-series.) During the course of the album, the listener will gain deep insights into psychoacoustic excerpts from the patients’ files, strange new forms of therapy and numerous soliloquies, often between multiple personalities. „mental [per]mutation“ includes a second disc on which special cases from outside the institution (among them the NYC-Techno-legend Lenny Dee) have gained access to KiEw’s sound files to inject them with their very own madness.
